The end of the year comes with the very well known "the end of world" effect... Probably you know, or at least imagine what I'm saying!

The fact is, this is a period that does not pass unnoticed by anyone. It is time for Christmas! ... Xmas Time!

Everyone lives a specific experience:
  • Madness
  • Stress
  • Meditation
  • Compulsion (for purchase and food, especially)
  • Depression
  • Getting "cool"
  • Getting "kitsch"
  • Getting "religious"
  • Getting "mystical"
  • Promising
  • Sweety
  • ...
xmas wj

If we see it as a brand experience, possibly the "Xmas Brand Experience" is a unique and singular one, however, has a specific and different meaning for each one of us...

It is an experience in the hands of individuals, without the intervention of "brand managers"... Free, chaotic and fluid...

For this, my wish is that you have a "Xmas Experience" in the way you wish it ... Live it!

Season Greetings

    Thank you!
For a long time now I believe Christmas is a conspiracy of the retailers/marketers/media - how do we get people out of their houses in the middle of winter, spending money, and loving it? :-)
I guess what we need to do, is to ignore the Christmas experience as it is being sold, and focus each on his/her own, personal, experience.
    Happy holidays!

    Chris Wilson [http://www.freshpeel.com] says:

This year more than others, I have been struggling with how many demands have been put on me during this holiday season. Part of this comes from added social commitments to family and friends.

In my case, many of these commitments to family have to come earlier than normal because of the distance that separates us. Just last week I was on the road traveling from state to state visiting family.

I think you're right. Everyone experiences this time of year differently. Some people find time to wind down, relax and do things that they normally don't have time for. While, I have a crazy schedule to keep and even less time to do the things that must get done.

But even with the intervention of brand managers, aren't all brand experiences like this to some degree?

You're right... in some degree... It's as when somebody asks you to think in a chair... You have one mental experience completely different than the one from other people...

However, I see that with brands, there is an intention behind (if not a clear postioninig statement, at least a call to action idea)... In the Xmas case this looks like a free self declaration of what Xmas means individually... No?

Thanks in we still have our homeworks waiting us!

    Happy Holydays!

    TD says:

I think that when the 'brand' is removed from CHRISTmas and replace it with an 'X', you do add the 'X' factor - the aility to make it your own brand; to make the reason for the season what you want it to be. It can still be 'feel good' based around family, friends, kids, and Santa, or it can be stress focused with thoughts of cooking, traveling, buying, wrapping, etc.

If other brand names were 'Xed out' you'd also lose the real sense of the brand right? 'Xburgers, Xshoes, Xcoffee'.

    Merry Christmas!

    Hi TD!

Actually, That wasn't my intention... I used "Xmas" as a way to differentiate this time of the year from the religious meaning of Christmas (however, not excluding it)...

In several countries, "Xmas" is used as a simplification of the word "Christmas", so... There is no "X" factor!...

In any case... Thanks for your comment and I hope that you have had a beautiful Christmas!

    Happy New Year!

Cristian (BTW... during several years I signed Xtian)
